There is little or no news on the writing front. That is standard during the summer so don't panic. Honor of the Clan is in final stages of development and is due out in January. That's the last 'Cally' book and features Mike's first appearance since Hell's Faire. The next one scheduled after that is Eye of the Storm which gets us right back to the whole 'Posleen War' crew. And, yes, I mean the whole surviving crew. Not that all of them survive that book.

Writing in general has been poor this year but there's a cold front on the way so don't give up hope. And with the current 'climate change' seeming to miraculously be changing to colder conditions, hey, there's great prospects for the future. (But don't ask about Empire of Man.)

Mostly this is an update on my take on the election.

I've been avoiding the subject because from my perspective I saw a choice between a liberal democrat who was going to raise taxes, take away our freedoms, bring back big government, burden me and my children with a massive series of entitlements with no prospect of relief or favor and who, further, hates the military, hates America and wants us to knuckle under to terrorists and a liberal democrat who was going to raise taxes, take away our freedoms, bring back big government, burden me and my children with a massive series of entitlements with no prospect of relief or favor but who likes the troops, believes in America and is willing to fight terrorism.

There was, seriously, no real there there for me. Terrorists aren't going to kill me or my kids and if the blue county people want to sign a suicide pact, oh, well. The events of the last few years have left me somewhat distant from the 'but they're American citizens!' argument.

Then there was the convention.

Call it convention bounce. My new take is three words:

Read My Lipstick.

Okay, Palin is only the VP candidate. So was Cheney. Already there are signs that her enormous popularity with the conservative base is pulling the notably manipluable McCain (my real problem with him) in the 'right' direction. And looking ahead to the future Palin is on the short list of really good 'back-bench' Republican candidates like Bobby Jindal and Lynn Swann who seem to get the whole 'Reagan Republican' concept. I'd pretty much given up and was looking to 2012 for relief. Now I'm back in the game.

Go Hockey Mom. Get McCain back into the conservative fold and we're talking some serious politics. Now we just need to hold onto seats in the House and Senate.

So... Get out and vote in November. Contribute or volunteer if you can. It matters again.

Re: Generic Update and the election

One comment about the differences between McCain and Obama, I don't think that McCain will forget that there nasty people out there who would love to do nasty things to Americans just because they are Americans.

Wouldn't you love to have the Hooky Mom as President in your Ghost series. [Wink]

Re: Generic Update and the election

The reason why Sarah Palin has such enormous appeal is simple: She's one of us. Yeah, that she understands that our primary goal is to have kids, protect them, educate them, even when it's the tough thing to do. That she understands that a husband and wife working together can achieve something with their hands, like a fishing boat in the Bering Sea. Or simply, that being an elected official is not about the power you have to further your ambitions, but to serve the taxpayers by doing things like selling the state jet on Ebay, or walking to the govenors mansion instead of using the limo.

Yah, she's one of US.
