Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
You know snippets could be considered cruel and unusual punishment. Especially really short ones from late in the book.

Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
Okaaaaaay this is very very interesting, wonder how long the Himmits have been hiding that lil factoid from everybody and wonder how the elves will react when it becomes general knowledge.

Ohhhhh man!!!!! can't wait for the snippets before this to find out how it got to this situtation. How will the elves react to finding out that the Himmits are hiding more then they know.

Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
So whatt would that be? 1) That the Himmit are actively and continually spying on Clan O'Neil. 2) That they will go out of their way to insure that Clan O'Neil survives, as long as it does not threaten the Himmits life or the Himmit Empire? 3) That there is a Himmit Empire? 4) There is a fourth possibility but i will refrain from posting it.

Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
I think we're all a little afraid to look like idiots here John. I'll just say I'm surprised at the "Himmit Empire" and say I'm happy your muse is back. Really enjoyed Centurion by the way. eric

If you're not talking about "Himmit Empire" as the 'interesting point', I don't know what you're talking about. [Wink]

Glad you're "back" John.
It's been soooo long, I was thinking of coming by S.E. Tenn. and kidnapping you and Miriam ... and dropping your butts off in Glacier National Park for a "jump start". ;)

Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
Oh man. I am in a world of hurt now, please can I have some more? Pleeease? (begging) I imagined the Himmit being master spies and sort of the power behind the throne. Could the Himmit be a race of servants that the aldenata used for control out among the stars? Or even the alenata themselves in disguise? Who could have snuck in and genitically modified the posleen and dahril and who knows what other races without being found out besides super sneaks? Maybe my comments belong over in the bar?

Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
I would've thought Cally would have said "Empire!" given her temper (as I have perceived from the books).
I'm not a bar user since the last changes, so I have missed the prior snippets, but that will just make the book so much more enjoyable.

Love the Paladin of the Shadows series. Haven't read any of your SF, not normally my thing but will probably try it out. Like your style and humor. Look forward to the next book in the series.

Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
looking at the snippet if I were a betting man I would say look for the Himmit who could be anywhere doing sneaky himmit stuff to begin a much larger part in the storyline.

Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
himmit empire? but they're supposed to be cowards......how the hell did they get an empire? hey wait, how did the location of the O'neal clan HQ get found out, so they'd require an evac? and who would be attacking? the posleen were down to a regional issue....

Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
*sighs*
If Cally or any of the rest of Clan O'Neal turns up with an inverted red sword tatto on their necks.... ;)
No, I'm not sure how I got there from this snippet other then I ran across South Park's 'Major Boobage' a few days ago and that lead me back to Taarna (of course ;) ... and then 'Taking a Ride' started playing in my head at the end of the above snippet.

Re: Since the Bar ain't workin'
Despite my complete lack of finances, after reading the sample chapters I just gave into the inevitable and bought the eARC. I'll note that this happens with most books written by Ringo.
I could be specific, but I'm going to be ambiguous to avoid spoilers. COME ON is OPSEC Really that all important?
Great book though, as usual. I almost thought the foreshadowed plot twist was original, until I remembered Oedipus. Though the details really do make it original despite any previous usage.
Last chapter really dug deep. If I had the words to describe how the ending really made me feel, I'd be an author instead of a reader. I cried. And the massive set up from When the Devil Dances, Cally's War, and Sister Time all added to a knife in the heart on the part of the reader, in this case being me.
I still can't really believe you went there.
